Swimming Pool Surrounds, Hidden Storage & Bamboo

Our brief was to design and construct new swimming pool surrounds in Oyster Bay for clients Chris and Julie, creating a connection between the swimming pool, existing structures and landscape.

We were required to make good all areas affected during the pool installation. Designing and installing fencing to comply with swimming pool regulations and standards was also imperative.

Effective irrigation systems were key to easy maintenance, so installation of automated drip irrigation and sprinklers were to be connected to existing rain water tanks.

Swimming Pool Surrounds

We extended the existing sandstone garden walls to create raised garden beds around the new swimming pool area. In addition, all exposed concrete faces were clad in sandstone to match the new and existing walls. This solution blended old with new for a seamless look.

Drop edge granite coping was supplied and laid around the swimming pool to create a modern ‘chunky’ edge to the new fibreglass pool with granite tiles laid to unite the design.

Decking & Hidden Storage

Not everything is straight forward in landscaping design but we love to find solutions! Working closely with our clients as we move through the build, good communication is everything! One such challenge in this project was to create a functional link between the existing residence, new swimming pool and existing landscape area.

For this we constructed a new timber deck platform and steps and modified an existing staircase. Then we enclosed the modified steps and landing to create a storage space for the pool pump and equipment.

Fencing

Two types of fencing were installed. Firstly, a 12mm frameless glass fencing around new pool area.

Secondly, we raised the height of existing boundary fencing by installing House of Bamboo ‘Cello’ bamboo screening product.

More About Engineered Bamboo

Here at Creative Nature we’re always on the lookout for new products and particularly embrace ones that address our passion for sustainability.

The beauty of the bamboo screening isn’t just in its modern look:

  • It easily clads a bland-looking Colorbond fence without having to remove the old structure.
  • We could simply extend the height of the existing fence for extra privacy.
  • Bamboo is a super sustainable product. A whole forest grows in 5-7 years compared to up to 100 years for hardwood. It can be grown without the use of pesticides and is self-regenerating so when you can get engineered bamboo that looks so contemporary, it’s really a great alternative to timber.

Planting

The team planted out all newly created garden beds and installed a new lawn area with fresh turf.

A regulated drip irrigation system was installed to all garden beds and a new pop up sprinkler system added to lawn area.
